Our mission

Welcome to Bossier (BOSS-ee-ay)! We are Georgetown's zine (magazine) dedicated to creating an intersectional feminist publication that provides space for marginalized gender identities and their allies on campus and across the globe. We want to hear your voice, see your art, and provide resources for your activism.

We are here to...

  1. Fill a niche at Georgetown. There are plenty of wonderful organizations on campus that help women in the professional sphere, which is necessary and important. What’s missing is a publication focused on the empowerment of women and marginalized gender identities through the sharing of their personal experiences and creative work. We think it is vital for women and marginalized gender identities on campus to have a non patriarchal-driven space to share their writing and art.

  2. Bring a submission-based publication to campus. Currently, few publications on campus publish curated content in a print format twice a year. The beauty of a submission-based magazine is that it will intentionally include voices from different communities across Georgetown, which is important to Bossier.

  3. Create discussion. Bossier is dedicated to sharing opinions of people of all races, genders, sexualities, and political backgrounds, even if they may be in conflict with each other.

  4. Build a community. Bossier is about marginalized gender identities helping other marginalized gender identities, intersectionality and inclusion. We want to create a supportive space to talk about important things, make college a little less scary, and have a good time doing it.

In addition to this, we want to emphasize the community aspect of Bossier. As members of the B Team, we want you to get to know one another, be friends, and feel like you can come to any of us with any problem you might have. Additionally, we hope that you can each act as an informal ambassador to Bossier and get your friends to contribute and engage. It’s all about building community and we don’t only do that with the physical magazine: we do that through our social media and newsletter, as well as with our events and partnerships with other Georgetown organizations.

Bossier is dedicated to providing an inclusive, harassment-free experience for everyone regardless of gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, ability, physical appearance, body size, ethnicity, financial need, nationality, race, age, religion, or other aspect of identity.
